chapter 64: PARIS DAY ONE

First crisis averted, we headed south - straight for Notre Dame. On the way, we passed a few state government buildings and everywhere we looked was something beautiful worth taking a picture of.
 {can you find Vanessa? I'm super hidden...}

 It was a beautiful Sunday evening, and because of that, we were able to go inside the Notre Dame and witness a congregational meeting. It was packed {can you imagine getting to have church in the Notre Dame each week!?} but still felt quiet and sacred. The children's choir was especially beautiful along with all the breathtaking stained-glass.

Starving after our long day thus far, we headed down the road {to avoid the pricy restaurants surrounding the cathedral} and found a cafe where we stopped for dinner. We did some reading, so already knew and were prepared for very slow service {a sign of good service} and were ready to take our time {eating is the event}. Ben ordered the beef bourguignon and I ordered a chicken something. As our appetizer, we boldly ordered escargot {loved it!}. It wasn't slimy but moist and had the texture of a steak. It was well seasoned with pesto and garlic, so it tasted delicious! The meal was delicious and much need, so after taking our time and enjoying our meal we left {no tip as custom... just to be sure we carefully observed those around us}. Following dinner, we wandered home slowly, taking in all of the wonderful shops and people around us.

We felt very safe in our key-code, triple locked corner apartment and pulled out the bed. After some brief searching, we came to realize there were no pillows, so we created a make-shift replacement with bundled up sheets, clothes and a stuffed hippo we found.

{as a footnote, on our very last day as we were cleaning and putting the house back together, we found that there were plenty of soft fluffy pillow beneath the bed... I tried to ignore that finding, feeling ridiculous that we went without for over a week}
